First 5 here:
1. Iron maiden
Iron Maidens are apparent Regenerator variants/prototypes; large humanoid creatures well above a normal human's height. They share most physical traits with the Regenerator but with slight differences; they have a larger mouth that takes up almost their whole face, have a purple hue to their skin and many large pointed spikes and nails protruding from their bodies. Their name comes from the ancient torturing tool, the Iron Maiden, which was a standing coffin of sorts filled with sharp spikes on the inside which you would lock victims into.
Much like the Regenerators, they can be shot several times with no effect and their lost limbs will regrow in a matter of seconds, even the head, and they house several leech-like Plagas as well. However, the Iron Maidens lack visible eyes and have a slower walking speed than Regenerators but can crawl much faster. The Iron Maidens tend to use their spikes as weapons, having a special attack where they grab Leon, pull him toward itself and then extend their spikes, impaling him for massive damage. They do not use their mouths to attack due to it being severely deformed (it has a mouth similar to the Gravedigger). They walk in a slow, deliberate manner, constantly suffering from rapid, spastic movements. When dying, their upper torso erratically shaby the bursting spikes from the Iron Maiden during the death sequence.
Role in Resident Evil 4 for Iron maiden
The Iron Maidens fill the basically same role as the Regenerator although they are encountered much more rarely; they are so rare, in fact, that only three iron maidens are encountered in the entire game.
Leon first encounters an Iron Maiden shortly after entering a research lab on the island when you see the beast lurking into a door through the cameras. The first Iron Maiden holds a keycard necessary to open Ashley's cell, possibly placed there to deter Leon's progress. The last is encountered in a garbage disposal area. This may seem to be more challenging than the earlier, due to Ashley's presence, but Ashley is able to hide in Dumpsters before fighting it, and Leon has the advantage of being able to close gates down on the Iron Maiden, stalling it's advance.
Due to their lack of mandible usage, the Iron Maidens lack perhaps the Regenerator's strongest and most lethal attack, the shoulder-bite. The Iron Maiden will instead try to grab, then impale you, which almost always causes death. The deadly "jumping bite" that the Regenerators use to excellent effect is replaced with the Iron Maiden repelling its spikes, which deal medium damage and can easily be killed with the infra-red scope or a normal weapon. Just aim at the torso and shoot the places where the Plagas.
Strategy of it
Despite its enhanced nature, Iron Maidens should be engaged using the same methods as a standard Regenerator, albeit with a greater caution as the distance between Leon and the Iron Maiden closes. It should also be noted that Iron Maiden posess a hidden Plaga on its back, the only way to get it is to shoot one of his leg first, then after he falls the plaga is visible to shoot.
Trivia
- The Iron Maiden and the regenerator have been consistently rated by video game websites to be one of the scariest creatures in Resident Evil 4.
- Despite being stronger than their Regenerator counterparts, Iron Maidens have about the same amount of health when you kill them without using the rifle, magnum, or other penetrating weapon to attack the Plagas directly.
- To get through open windows, an Iron Maiden "slithers" across it (whereas Leon would just jump through it). This can be most easily seen with the first Iron Maiden in the research lab area, by breaking open the window that connects two of the rooms in the area and then watching the Iron Maiden travel through it.
- An Iron Maiden is a torture device used during the Dark ages, designed as an iron or wooden coffin tall enough to enclose a person, often with strategically placed spikes that does not pierce any vital organs or arteries, this is to give prisoners or interrogated suspects a scary and slow but painful death via bleeding or asphyxiation. Interestingly enough if an Iron Maiden grabs Leon at full health and expands his spikes on him, it does not instantly kill him rather put him in a near death state.
2. Regenerator
Regenerators are rare yet very tough enemies found in the few final chapters of the Resident Evil 4. They are capable of rapid regeneration and can take extreme amounts of damage before dying (both arms and legs blown off, decapitation, ect).
Characteristics
A Regenerator is a monster created by inhumane experiments with Las Plagas and human test subjects plus DNA testing. Regenerators are named for their artificially created high metabolism. If a Regenerator is injured, small tentacles sprout from the wound and appear to 'knit' new flesh, recreating entire limbs within seconds. This allows the Regenerator to recover from bullet wounds, lost limbs, decapitation, loss of lower body or even loss of the entire upper torso with little loss of overall health. The Regenerator appears as a large vaguely man-shaped creature covered in hairless, seemingly rough grey skin. Their mouths are large, taking up most of their otherwise featureless faces and are filled with needle-like teeth which force the Regenerator into a grin. Although slow to walk with a distinctly unnerving palsied gait, Regenerators are capable of frightening bursts of speed when attacking, viciously slashing and biting, and stretching their arms to unnatural lengths to grab their prey. A Regenerator may randomly run at the player and knock Leon down with it's powerful arms, which is incredibly frightening to the player as it will happen randomly and quickly, it is also worth noting that the accompanying theme song and heavy breathing for the Regenerators adds to their frightning presence. The Regenerators are inhumanly flexible as they can be knocked back into impossible positions that would snap the spine of any human, bringing themselves up with ease, suggesting the absence of a conventional skeletal system. They can also stretch limbs to extreme length in order to grab their prey and when their legs are blown away they can move forward very quickly by slamming themselves toward the ground causing them to jump forward. This is all possible due to their bodies almost completely, if not entirely, consisting of pure muscle manipulated by the leech-like Plagas hiding in its body. The presence of a Regenerator nearby can be instantly detected by the sound of their erratic and strained breathing.
Tactics
Each Regenerator carries inside it two to five leech-shaped Plagas, which are responsible for the Regenerators' rapid regeneration system and serve as its main weaknesses. They cannot be seen with the naked eye, but have to be detected with thermal imaging. When all the Plagas are killed, the Regenerator's cells spin out of control and expand, exploding the entire upper body (if the legs have been removed, the creature will explode, comically leaving behind only its pelvis). The number of leech-Plagas depend on the game's difficulty level; Regenerators on Professional usually have all five Plagas, with the final Plaga being located on the back of the Regenerator and thus preventing it from being detected with frontal thermal imaging. Killing this final Plaga requires either lucky shooting or careful aiming if the player knows the exact location of the Plaga, shooting it from the front. Another strategy is to shoot the Regenerator's leg off, causing it to fall onto the ground belly-down allowing the player to shoot the back Plaga easily. This should be exercised with EXTREME caution, however, as if the player is too close to the Regenerator after it falls, it will leap into the air, bite Leon's neck, proceed to viciously tear it apart, and finally (if not shaken off) kill Leon in a spectacularly gruesome death. On Professional mode, the Regenerator is nearly impossible to shake off if not at a full 10 bars of health, and if the player is in the yellow or red health area, death is unavoidable. The leech-like Plagas can only be killed using penetrating weapons such as the rifles, magnums and possibly the Punisher although it is difficult and not recommended. The best weapons to use are definitely the Handcannon, making the Regenerator's torso pop in one shot, and the P.R.L. 412, which destroys the Regenerator in similar fashion. The Chicago Typewriter also works very well as you can spray the whole body indefinitely until finding the Plagas while the weapons stopping power prevents the Regenerator from advancing forward. If you don't have one of these impressive weapons, another technique is to use a shotgun, magnum, or other high power weapon to destroy one of the Regenerator's legs. If you aren't bitten by the Regenerator as it leaps through the air, you can stab it into submission with your knife while it's still on the ground. However, the Regenerator can sometimes regenerate its leg while you're stabbing it. If this happens, pull out your shotgun and do it again. It takes about two minutes to kill a downed Regenerator using only the knife. When it comes to the worst, 3 incendiary grenades (on Normal) will do the job.
Role in Resident Evil 4 for them
Regenerators are among the rarest enemies in Resident Evil 4, although more frequently encountered than their Iron Maiden relatives.
The first one is encountered in Chapter 5-1. When Leon collects a keycard from a dead body, a Regenerator awakes in a nearby locked autopsy room. The Regenerator breaks down the door and attacks Leon, two more are met outside of the room; one around the second corner of the corridor, and one through the iron gates down a very tight corridor, at the very end to the right, past the second, if Leon kills the first in the corridor, it makes the second easier to deal with. the fourth is located in the room where the freezer key is converted into the waste disposal key. This one only attacks if Leon unfreezes the room using the control panel and picks up the infra-red scope or enters the room with a infra-red scope carried over from a previous game. With this Regenerator, the door locks, forcing you to battle with it until it is dead, upon which the door unlocks and you leave with your best defense and offense against both Iron Maidens and Regenerators.
Regenerators have a different number of Las Plagas on them with each difficulty setting ranging from 2-5.
Attacks
The Regenerators have few attacks, but the ones it does have are very health-consuming.
- The Regenerator will come up close and smash Leon with an overhead swing of its arms, like a zombie. This does about 4-5 bars damage in Professional Mode and knocks Leon to the ground.
-or-
- From medium range or from the floor with a leg missing, it will extend its arms (or bounce on it's stomach when legless) and grab Leon. It will then viciously bite Leon in the neck and latch on to him causing a quick-time event to throw the Regenerator off. If you don't shake it off it will bite through Leon's jugular. This attack causes anywhere between 4 bars of damage to death (even with maximum health) in Professional Mode depending on how quickly you are able to throw the Regenerator off.

3.Novistador
Novistadors (faux Spanish from "no vista" or literally "no sight",combined with dor,a common Spanish noun) were large, insectoid creature encountered by Leon during his exploration of an isolated Spanish region.
Novistadors are found in two forms at three locations within Ramon Salazar's Castle. When killed, Novistadors provide "eye" stones of three colours (red, blue, and green), which can be combined with the Butterfly Lamp for greater resale value (32.000 with all coloured eyes).
Leon encounters Novistadores in the sewers below Salazar's castle. The novistadores which attack him here are flightless, but have a remarkable chameleon-like ability to turn invisible, giving them absolute stealth. Fortunately, their glowing eyes, dripping acid and an outline of fog reveal their positions, allowing them to be detected, but if the player has a good eye, also if the player has the Wii version, the aiming reticule will turn red when an invisible novistador is targeted, also one can tell if a Novistador is on the hunt when a loud "thud" sound is heard when it drops down to the floor and it's heavy footsteps pounding the floor as it closes in on it's target. The enemies attack with a series of swipes, kicks and grabs. When a Novistador grabs onto Leon, they will vomit acid over his head. If the player doesn't shake the novistador off, the novistador will kill Leon by melting his face
Leon encounters a second breed of Novistadores in a castle tower where they had built a large hive, and again in a cave system far beneath the castle. In both cases, these creatures lacked their predecessors' camouflage ability but instead gained wings to compensate. Whether these two creatures are developing stages of the same monster or different breeds entirely was never stated. The flying Novistadors are notably less durable than the others.
According to Luis's third memo, Novistadors (along with other creatures such as El Gigante) are "merely by-products of the diabolical and inhumane experiments conducted on the specimens that were once human."
Notes
- The Novistador cannot cloak and fly at the same time, but in the Nest Tower, if you look closely, you'll spot one flying while invisible. It appears only once (It will disappear the next time you play the level). If a Novistador is flying, it will die with a single shot.

- 4.U-3
-
The U-3 is one of the experiments carried out by the research team at the Island; it is a horrifying amalgamation of many beings all fused imperfectly into one. While it has the upper part of a human torso and a human head, its visage is monstrously warped and marked by strange scars upon its nape and crown, a clawed arm, and a tentacle in place of the other one. Below this, it is grafted in a centaur-like fashion into a deformed body, that has two front legs and two hind ones bonded by a centipede-like fleshy piece of muscle. Later, after receiving enough damage, the Plaga attached to its spine emerges to attack. The Plaga has evolved since its first stages and resembles a tentacle ending in a gaping mouth, lined with dozens of teeth. This tentacle also sports a heavy pair of pincers, resembling a scorpion's tail. If you look close enough, it looks like the lion, serpent and goat puzzle in the castle. The U3 can cause one of the most gruesome deaths in the game by slicing Leon's lower body completely off.
Role in Resident Evil 4
Saddler first mentioned the U-3 to Leon after the battle with Krauser, referring to it simply as "it". Later, in the underground cellars, Leon first fought the U-3 in a suspended set of crate rigs, in a battle where he continuously dropped the rigs to the abyss below. When the last crate fell, the creature went down with it. After dropping the second crate, the U-3 sprouted a massive Pincer Plaga from its back. Leon drops the U-3 into the abyss below with the third container crate. Relentless, the U-3 scaled the walls of the chasm and continued to pursue Leon. The U-3 was severely damaged and began to burrow underground for concealment. After destroying the Plaga, the rest of the body went down with it.
Strategies
The U-3 is extremely resistant to damage, and can absorb almost anything the player can throw at it. In the first stage of the battle in the container pods, the U-3 is invincible and cannot be killed. The battle is won of speed, as the player races to hit both of the emergency release buttons. U-3 will occasionally jump down from the rafters to fight the player head on. In this situation, use the TMP or Shotgun to repel U-3 back to the rafters, or else try to run past it without fighting if you are low on ammo (you will need every bit of it in the next portion of the fight). Keeping your fingers on the dodge buttons is not a bad idea, as the U-3 will attack with dodgeable attacks, both from the rafters and from the ground level. The best strategy for this stage is to avoid aimless wandering and run at all times while under attack. After the second pod is dropped, U-3 will sprout a deadly Pincer Plagas from its back, making it ever more lethal. If U-3 grabs you, get away as fast as you can because he has one-hit-KO attacks.
After all three container pods are dropped, the real battle begins. The U-3 will climb the chasm it was dropped into, and begin to attack you. U-3 is now killable, but is extremely tough to beat. Most Handgun bullets will do next to zero noticeable damage, and the Shotgun becomes less effective now that U-3 is able to attack at greater range, thanks to the Pincer Plaga. The best strategy is to use the gates to stop U-3's movement while you unload rifle, TMP, or Magnum rounds. Make good use of the two explosive barrels in the area. One is located in the cave, and the other is located behind the rock in the open area. After receiving a large amount of damage, the U-3's lower section will die, spewing blood and remaining still. However, the Pincer Plaga will still be alive and deadly. Distance is essential. Shortly after rising from the ground again, U-3 will burrow under the ground. Get ready for lots of dodge sequences, as the subterranean U-3 attacks from underground with its pincers. After a random amount of dodge sequences, the U-3 will surface, giving you a small time window to unleash hell on the crippled beast, but be sure to stay on your toes; U-3 has an instant kill attack where its pincers will cleave Leon in two. U-3 is not easy to kill, and on Professional mode, it is not uncommon to use upwards of 25 Magnum rounds, 30 rifle rounds, 300 TMP rounds, 5 or more Frag and Incendiary grenades, and 50 shotgun shells, or more. Also, on the same mode, if the first thing you damage U-3 with is a rocket launcher, even head on, U-3 will survive and continue the fight. However, a rocket launcher shot will kill it on normal mode. Make sure you're well stocked before the battle. It is also wise to unload rifle rounds onto the orange part of the Plaga, located between it's pincers, which has been rumored to be it's weak point. There is an easy (if not risky) way to kill U-3 rather that the usual strategy (this involves spending a whopping 30,000 pesatas, of course); before the fight, go to the Merchant and buy a Rocket Launcher. After the third rig drops and you are in the real fight with U-3, take out the RPG and fire. On Professional difficulty, this will damage U-3 enough like for a single Incendiary Grenade to deal the killing blow; on Normal, it will kill him instantly. The only risk of doing this, however, is that if you miss, then
you lost 30,000 pesetas.
5.El Gigante
El Gigante (literally "the giant" in Spanish) is a rare enemy and recurring sub-boss in Resident Evil 4.
Characteristics
Gigantes are towering behemoths, formerly humans that were exposed to Las Plagas parasites, and through an unknown method, grew to an immense size, acquiring great strength and brutality to compensate for their loss of higher reasoning. It could be that the parasite in El Gigante could have caused an extreme growth spurt which increased the bone growth as well as the the muscle and skin growth, but it isn't confirmed. They are often referred to as "Cave Trolls" by fans due to their resemblance to the Lord Of The Rings creature of the same name. These monsters have high stamina and will use their vast size and bulk to choke, crush, kick, charge and punch smaller prey. The only weak point on El Gigante is the accordingly overgrown Plaga attached to its spine. When the Plaga is destroyed, so is El Gigante. Once damaged enough, the Plaga will expose itself and El Gigante will fall to its knees, grabbing his head in pain, allowing the player to climb up onto it's back and use their knife to slash at the writhing Plaga parasite before the monster recovers. If the player is too slow or presses the wrong attack button during this action, they will be thrown from El Gigante's back and the player lose their chance to inflict damage on the monster. Repeating this method (3 successful attacks, more specifically) will eventually kill El Gigante. One does not however have to respond to the action and can instead shoot the Plaga with a powerful weapon. Likewise, a well placed shot from a Rocket Launcher can also instantly kill an El Gigante. A startlingly efficient way of dealing with El Gigante is to fire three mine darts from the Mine Thrower (without the EX heat-seeking upgrade) in rapid succession at the exposed Plaga: the Plaga will then retreat into the thoracic cavity and the mines will detonate, killing the monster instantly.
Role in Resident Evil 4
Leon first encountered El Gigante as he passed through a path that ran next to a mine neighboring the village church. At first, during daytime, the beast was contained by heavy locks and a giant gate within the mine and can be heard breathing and grunting. But at nightfall, when Leon attempted to traverse the same path, a group of Ganados opened the door in hopes the behemoth would kill Leon so he would never reach the church. When released, the towering monstrosity crushed the Ganados and proceeded to attack Leon. If the player chooses to release the dog from the beartrap earlier in the game, he will arrive during Leon's battle and will provide a distraction, giving Leon a better chance at killing El Gigante. Later on, in one of the two paths Leon could choose to reach the Village Chief's hideout, by fighting a second Gigante, this time in a deep, steep ravine where Leon had very little open space. There, it was defeated again by Leon, where he could choose to employ a heavy boulder on the edge of the ravine (which was noticed by Ashley), to crush the monster or fight it conventionally. In the mines beneath Salazar's Castle Leon confronted a pair of Gigantes (which carried the Los Illuminados emblems) in a blast furnace, where he could choose to open the floor to drop one of them into the molten metal below. This act fuses the mechanism however, forcing Leon to defeat the second Gigante conventionally.
Ada Wong encounters and defeats a second Gigante in the same village ravine as Leon in "Separate Ways".
NEXT 5 soon.
